WORLD MAYOR 2018
Dedicated to women mayors The 2018 World Mayor Prize and Commendations will be conferred on women mayors who have made outstanding and long-lasting contributions to their communities. The organisers wish to show what outstanding women mayors achieve all over the world. By doing so, they hope to encourage more women to contemplate a career in local government and run for political office. The women, who will be awarded the 2018 World Mayor Prize and other honours, will be role models for young women and, indeed, men everywhere. Barbara Bosch, Mayor of Reutlingen, Germany, was longlisted for the 2018 World Mayor Prize. |

She was elected when even fewer women than today achieved leading roles in local government. I believe her achievements since 2003, her integrity and her empathy with all her fellow citizens makes her a role model for young women. I therefore believe Mayor Bosch should be considered for the World Mayor Prize. Sie hat in den letzten 15 Jahren sehr viel bewegt und die Stadt wesentlich nach vorne gebracht. Reutlingen: Reutlingens Oberbuergermeisterin Barbara Bosch hat, seit sie vor rund 15 Jahren in das Rathaus einzog, wesentlich dazu beigetragen, dass sich die Stadt zum Besseren entwicklet hat. Sie hat sich nicht gescheut auch kontroverse Themen selbstbewusst anzugehen. Als die Fluechtlingskrise auf ihrem Hoehepunkt stand, hat sie Menschlichkeit gegenueber den Fluechtlingen gezeigt, aber ist gleichzeit auch auf die Befuerchtungen der einheimischen Buerger eingegangen. Sie versteht, dass Integration nur erfolgreich sein kann, wenn alle Beteiligten das Gefuehl haben, gerecht behandelt zu werden. In den letzten Jahren hat die Oberbuergermeisterin die Entwicklung der heimischen Wirtschaft und die Verbesserung der Umwelt zur Chefsache gemacht. Die Arbeitslosenzahl ist auf einem Rekordtief, ein neues internationales Hotel wird gebaut. Neue Buslinien sollen Autofahrer zum Umstieg auf oeffentliche Verkehrsmittel bewegen. Barbara Bosch wird als OB in der Region, im Land und auch anderen Teilen Deutschlands geschaetzt. Sie hat es verdient, auch international anerkannt zu werden. |
